I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Matt and I’m 30 years old from upstate New York. I’ve always struggled with weight loss, and had many ups and downs. I’d find a program that would give me temporary results, or the latest “fad” diet plan, but I could never keep the weight off and find consistent results. I was self-conscious about how I looked, and knew I needed to make a change.
Being in my 20’s at the time, partying and eating junk food was a lifestyle that was hard to break. I consistently felt tired, with very little energy throughout the day. I began to see pictures of me that were less than flattering, and quite frankly I was embarrassed at how I looked, as I began developing a “beer gut”. When I was 25, I was introduced to BeachBody’s “P90x” program. I stuck with it for about 30 days and dropped 15 lbs, even with remaining on my “party” lifestyle. However, soon after I got sucked back into that unhealthy lifestyle, saying to myself “I can drop the weight whenever I want, and I’m still young”. Soon, I found myself at 225lbs, and being 5 foot 7, that doesn’t look particularly attractive.
In addition to this, I also had a couple of really bad breakups in relationships between 25 and 28 years old. This is when things began to change for me. Rather than allowing those events to define and control me, I used them to fuel my motivation to change my body. I began going for runs almost every night, finding a boxing class at my gym to take out my frustrations and anger, doing P90x and changing the way I ate.
This is when I began seeing the weight melt off of me. I’ve gone from 225lbs to a consistent 175lbs. It wasn’t done overnight, and a lot of hard work and consistency have been the key to success. BeachBody has allowed me the opportunity to keep the weight off, and more importantly, help others who also may be struggling and going through some negative events in their lives. My best piece of advice is to take that negativity in your life, turn the tables and use it as fuel for your fire. Always know WHY you’re trying to get healthy. Each person’s motivation can be different, but the WHY will keep you on track and focused.
