Rock vs Brock Set for WrestleMania 32?

It’s been less than 24 hours since Brock officially announced that he is staying with WWE, but speculation about future opponents has already begun. None are more interesting than The Rock. So how realistic is this fantasy matchup? Well, for starters this potential match has no other platform to happen other than at WrestleMania. Secondly, both of these men aren’t getting any younger, so in short the sooner the better. Third, they will both be with the WWE through WrestleMania 32 next year in Dallas TX.

Cowboy Stadium can hold 100k plus, and it’s no secret that WWE would like to break the indoor attendance record. There may be no better way to do this than an epic once in a lifetime matchup between the beast and the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Yes, these two have met before inside the squared circle. The year was 2002, at Summerslam, which ended with the then rookie Brock Lesnar defeating The Rock for the WWE Title. Fast forward 14 years to 2016, this match would generate an infinitely more amount of ‘buzz’ not just among the WWE fans, but would draw interest among movie and MMA fans. Both men have made major impacts in their respective fields, which would bring in viewers who may have tuned out of the WWE product since the “Attitude Era”, or even create new fans. The bottom line for WWE is that you would have a huge number of eyeballs on your product, which at the end of the day is what is best for business (no pun intended).

On the surface this appears to be a no-brainer from a business perspective for WWE in terms of garnering additional network subcribers, and obviously the performers who will be paid very handsomely. The question is, will it actually happen? My short answer from being a 20 year wrestling fanatic is yes, and furthermore I think we will see the seeds of this match be planted this Sunday at WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, CA. It just makes too much financial sense for WWE to miss the boat on this. It’s now or never for WWE with both stars under contract, and the perfect stage of 100,000 screaming fans in Dallas on the horizon. It appears that all of the stars are aligning for this fantasy matchup to become a reality. A lot has changed for both men since 2002, but one thing remains in common. They are both fierce competitors, and their match would be nothing short of spectacular.

However, as much as this match appears to be a win-win for all parties involved, there are some hurdles that need to be overcome for this to become a reality. The first question is The Rock’s movie filming schedule. Can or would he move any potential filming commitments to make this happen, and if he does, would he be willing to put in the rigorous training needed to be in ring shape? Secondly, what would the storyline be? With Brock on the verge of turning babyface, and The Rock a well-established top babyface talent, would they turn one heel or keep both as “good guys”? My opinion is to keep both as mega-babyfaces. The fans are ready to support Lesnar, and The Rock is a proven record selling “good guy”. Has this ever been done before? Yes, WrestleMania 17 with The Rock Vs Stone Cold, WrestleMania 18 with The Rock vs Hogan.

Brock vs Rock can be done, and the time is now. There’s no better stage than in front of 100,000 fans and it’s time to plant the seeds on Sunday and watch the most electrifying man in sports entertainment and the beast have a year-long build that will have millions of fans tuning in to watch a match for the ages.

If ya smelllll…… well you know the rest.
